Next is the upper frames assembly. This is one of the longest parts of
the build and it is quite complex. I will split this into two steps similar
to the manual. The first step is the upper frames assembly and the second
step is the collective pitch rocker assembly.
Lets step through this a piece at a time. First the upper main frames themselves.
Items of note are that you don't need to install the elevator lever, it
can be inserted after the frames have been put together. Also the radius
arm stay (swashplate anti-rotation guide) on my machine required a little
work. It's worth checking this and fixing before building the upper frames.
Just insert the long pin on the swashplate into the radius arm stay slot.
Run it up and down to check for free and smooth movement. Mine was too
tight and was fixed by sanding the insides of the radius arm stay with
a medium grit sand paper. You don't want the swashplate pin to be sloppy
in the radius arm stay but equally it should not be binding or resistant
to being moved up and down the slot.
Take careful note of which way up the main bearing holders go in the frames.
The upper bearing holder should be orientated such that the bearing slots
in from above. The lower bearing holder should be orientated such that
the bearing slots in from below.
When building the tail pulley I found that the bearing, drive pulley and
drive pulley washer were all a very tight fit on the shaft and needed a
bit of force to insert onto the shaft. Be careful here and if it won't
go don't use excessive amounts of force to get the items onto the shaft.
Try using teflon grease or similar to loosen things up. Take note that
the rear pulley set is only mounted with three screws, the lower forward
screw hole is not used (until later).
Aside from these things the assembly of the upper frames is very straight
forward. |

Having installed the bearings and drive pulley it's a simple case of just
bolting the rest of the frames together. |
